Trust-Based Philanthropy
Transparency.
Collaboration.
Accountability.
This is how the Victoria Foundation builds relationships with the community.
Trust-based philanthropy advances an equitable society by working to address the power imbalances between funders, charitable organizations and communities. The Victoria Foundation isn’t just a funder, we’re a collaborator and community convener. We work alongside charitable organizations to uplift communities in the capital region, helping them build capacity to fulfill their needs and goals.
How the Victoria Foundation is working to embody trust-based philanthropy
Multi-year, unrestricted funding: Charitable organizations understand their greatest financial need and how their resources can best support their causes. That’s why we provide eligible organizations with flexible, general operating and program funding. Our multi-year funding pilots are guiding us on this grantmaking practice.
Do the homework: The foundation is committed to getting to know grantees and community partners. Our research reduces the burden on charitable organizations.
Simplify and Streamline Paperwork: The foundation minimizes administrative tasks for charitable organizations, letting them focus on their work.
Transparent and responsive: Open, supportive communication builds trust and mutual accountability between the Victoria Foundation and the community.
Solicit and act on feedback: Community partners and grantees are critical to informing the foundation’s strategies and approaches.
Support beyond the cheque: One-on-one support. Networking events. Promotional opportunities. These are just a few of the non-monetary ways the foundation helps bolster leadership, capacity and organizational health.
