Communities thrive when everyone belongs

Feeling a sense of belonging and forming meaningful connections with others enhances overall quality of life. When everyone has equal opportunity to safely participate in public life, it strengthens wellbeing, fosters inclusion and inspires people to make a positive impact in their communities. From newcomer settlement services and employment support to gender affirming care and cultural programing, there are many local organizations ensuring people feel supported, accepted and valued.

Support Belonging and Engagement

There are a number of ways you can support belonging and engagement in our community, including:

Supporting barriered youth through gender-affirming apparel

Clothing that fits properly helps you feel like you. For barriered gender-diverse youth, feeling safe and affirmed in their body is where belonging begins. Island Sexual Health supports the Wear & Care program which offers free or pay-what-you-can apparel, health education safety guidance and support.

A Nourishing Welcome

The Victoria Immigrant and Refugee Centre Society offers support and services to newcomers settling in the Greater Victoria Region. Their welcome garden program helps foster a sense of community engagement while bolstering food security for racialized communities.
