Civil Society Impact Study: 2025/2026
Our new Architects of Belonging: Civil Society Impact Study captures the vital role that civil society organizations (also known as charitable organizations) play in our community. Beyond the social impact of their work, the charitable sector drives extensive economic value. Collectively, charitable organizations are a proven community asset. The sector delivers $5.4 billion in annual economic activity, on par with the technology sector in Greater Victoria and with Agriculture, Forestry & Fishing in British Columbia.
Civil Society Impact Report
Civil Society Impact Report: 2018
This study examined the social impact and economic activity of civil society in the capital region in the 2016 fiscal year. It found that the total economic activity of registered charitable organizations in the capital region was just over $4 billion. This level of spending supported the equivalent of 63,000 jobs, which in turn supported over $300 million in municipal taxes.

The 2025 State of BC’s Non-Profit Sector Survey, conducted by Vantage Point, reveals that non-profits across the province are under increasing pressure. More than 500 non-profit leaders across the province shared their perspectives, highlighting three interconnected themes:

This report series offers a data-driven snapshot of the health of the charitable sector in British Columbia. Drawing on survey findings, it highlights ongoing needs, key trends, challenges, opportunities and successes currently shaping the sector. It helps equip funders, policy-makers and other sector stakeholders with relevant information to make informed decisions.

Vital Signs 2025
This annual community check-up measures well-being in our region, identifies concerns and supports action on issues that are critical to our quality of life. Based on the results from our online citizen survey and local community data, we develop the report to connect philanthropy to community needs and opportunities.
